Packing
Most people would say packing is the worst thing about moving to a new home. If it is not done properly it can turn into a real nightmare. We have put together some helpful tips to to take some of the pain our of packing.
- Plan your move in advance. Start collecting boxes straight away, ask local shopkeepers to save boxes for you and pick up an extra box when you visit the supermarket.
- Have a good clear out, sort all the clutter that has accumulated over the years and throw away anything you know you will never use.
- Ask your friends to save you anything you could use when pakcing. If you use a removal firm they will normally provide containers. Don't throw any newspapers away either, you can use them for wrapping up your breakable items.
- Try to start packing as early as possible, anything you are not likely to use, or can do with out pack as soon as possible.
- Lable boxes as to what room they are for.
- Don't put loads of heavy stuff in one box, try where possible to spread the weight.
- Secure all boxes firmly
- Disconnect appliances such as washing machines and dishwashers in advance.
- Defrost your freezer as soon as you can, make sure it is ice free on the day of moving
- Write clearly on boxes which are fragile.
- Take apart large items, such as wardrobes, if possible.
- Keep a box of things you might need on the day, or day after the move (like the kettle!)
